Working from home can be a highly rewarding option for stay at home moms. If you want to look after your kids and spend quality time with them, you no longer need to compromise on that and join an office that will leave you with very little time. A home job or business provides you that much needed flexibility that you can use to spend time with your family as well as devote time to your independent career.

Working from home - a challenge for moms

There are many work at home moms who have been successful with their independent ventures. Although the idea of a home business might seem easy and convenient to some, the truth is that you need to put in a lot of effort and perseverance to make it work. Starting a home business becomes all the more challenging when you are a stay at home mom, occupied with a thousand things in a day. The main idea is to manage your time in such a way that you get around devoting a significant amount of time everyday to your growing business.

The positives of working from home

There are so many benefits of working from home, that any stay at home mom or working mom would opt for it. Firstly it gives you an excellent opportunity to spend time with your kids. Instead of dropping your baby off in a babysitter’s place and driving to work every day, you might as well start your own home business venture and give quality time to your child. When you work for a company, all your time and energy gets drained out by the time you get back home, and you are too tired to either exercise or cook up a healthy, wholesome meal for your child and yourself. Is it a great option? If working from an office still leaves you with very less money at the end of the month, do you see any point in it? There are many work at home moms who have quit their jobs and started their own ventures. Yes, it is a risk to take, but when you are ready to work hard and persevere, you are sure to succeed.

Flexibility

One of the best things about being a work at home mom is the flexibility that comes with it. You are no longer at the mercy of somebody else’ time and will; you are very much mistress of your own time. Whenever you feel like it, you can schedule your day’s activities and go and attend your kid’s first basketball match. It is to experience these small pleasures that we live; when you are busy slogging away in an office, you miss out on so many things that end of it all you may regret having joined a job. With plenty of opportunities available to work from home, it makes little sense to miss out on all the fun, when you could very well be flexible with your time and work in your own speed and convenience.

Doing what you love

One of the best things about being a work at home mom is doing what you love, fulfilling your passions. Most people hold on to a full time job for financial security. However financial security can also come from an independent venture. Life is too short to not follow your dreams and do something that you like. Instead of spending 10-12 hours a day in an office, you could spend time at home and invest your energies on a home business of your choice.

Work at home moms have everything they need to keep them going, the company of their kids, flexibility of time as well as the ability to do something they are passionate about.

How to Stay Focused on your Home Business

When you are a work at home mom, there are so many things that could distract you- starting from the daily domestic chores to doing homework with your kids. At times distractions could even come from the TV, radio or a visit from a friendly neighbor. What are the things that you can do to keep yourself focused on your home business and not get easily distracted every now and then? After all, any home business requires you to give your full attention and devotion; therefore it is important that whatever time you invest on it is worth it.

Domestic chores can wait

If you are used to cleaning up your house on time, you might find it a little difficult at first to let go of your daily routine. Once you start working from home, you will realize that there is no set routine that you can follow. If you think that you would rather first wash your dishes before calling the client, it may not be a really great idea. While your dishes can wait as well as the dirty clothes, your valued client may not really be able to wait that long. Therefore the trick is to leave domestic chores for a more convenient time and first attend to that important email or phone call. The dishes and dirty clothes will always be there waiting for you, whereas an important client may not always be waiting for you.

Focusing on your goals

As a work at home mom you need to focus on your goals. What made you choose to become a work at home mom? Every work at home mom will have her unique set her goals. While some might want to pursue their passions, some might want to earn extra money to save for their retirement. Whatever your goals, make sure that you write them down and put them up on the wall for you to see. Every time you look at these goals, you will be reassured of your plans and won’t feel all that distracted.

Get together with another work at home mom

It will really help to get together with another work at home mom who shares a similar line of work with you. This way you get to indulge in a little bit of healthy competition and stay motivated. At times working all by yourself might feel like quite a strain- you really don’t know where you stand; having someone to discuss your achievements with is a great boon. Work at home moms who work together are at a great advantage to motivate each other by sharing ideas, goals, and achievements. At the end of each day, you can call each other and discuss possible plans or achieved goals. One of the things that an independent work at home mom misses is team work- staying in touch with another work at home mom greatly helps to keep the momentum up.

Setting short-term realistic goals

Instead of setting long-term goals that may not really be achievable, set short term, reliable goals that are possible to achieve. Give yourself a week’s time to achieve your goals. This way by the time the month ends, you can go back on all your weekly achievements and get an idea of where you stand and how far you need to go. The main idea is to take small steps and slowly aim for higher results. If you push yourself too much at the beginning, the chances are that you will soon burn out of steam. As a work at home mom you should avoid setting impossible tasks and concentrate on short term goals.

There are many ways in which you can get easily distracted when are working from home. The trick is to stay focused and concentrate on your goals.
