Difference between Organic and Eco Friendly Products

While everyone is going the eco friendly way, there could be some vague understanding of the basic terms associated with an environmental friendly life. While most people use the words organic and eco friendly interchangeably, there is a difference between the two concepts.

Many times we across green products in the market that state that they are organically made. While these products could very well be eco friendly and good for the environment, it does not imply that every eco friendly product needs to be organically made. By organic products it is usually meant the products that are made from organic materials. For example, organic cotton or organic sugar. These products are made keeping in mind the state of the environment. Most chemical based products leave a negative impact on the environment, which is why the eco friendly activists encourage the use of eco friendly and organic products to promote the well-being of the environment.

Organic products are mostly made from organic or natural resources using the most simple and basic styles of manufacture. For example, organic food is made using natural pesticides and herbicides to make sure that there is less of a burden on the environment. More and more people are opting for organic food owing to the safe and natural way in which it is grown. Organic products are gaining popularity all over the world for their natural and eco friendly feel. If you want to create an eco friendly home, one of the best things to do is to stock up your kitchen with organic food and the rest of the rooms with organic products.

By eco friendly products we generally mean products and services that cause little or no effect to the state of the environment. While all organic products can be said to be eco friendly, we cannot say the same about eco friendly products. Not all eco friendly products are organic in nature. Eco friendly products are generally gentle on the environment, although they may not be made from purely organic materials. When we talk about an eco friendly home, we think of the many aspects such as laundry, gardening, kitchen, power consumption, etc. Take for instance the laundry of a house; on an average, thousands of people use detergents on a daily basis. Several environmentally conscious people are opting for eco friendly detergents that contain less of the harmful chemicals that burden the environment. While these eco friendly detergents are not completely organic, yet they come with less of the toxins that add to the toxic waste accumulating on the earth. The same eco friendly home could also use an organic air freshener to do away with bad odor. This organic air freshener is made from natural materials that do not emit any sort of chemicals.

The basic difference between eco friendly products and organic products could be in the level of toxins. While organic products are made without toxins, eco friendly products could have minimal amount of toxins. Eco friendly products aim at minimizing the negative impact of chemicals and toxins on the environment, and organic products are made in such a way that the environment does not feel the burden. There is a thin line differentiating the two and most times we could get confused and label them as one and the same.

Irrespective of whether you go for eco friendly products or organic products, the aim is to reduce the stress on the environment and work towards a green, beautiful planet.
